Holy Week

Holy Week has arrived.  A sacred time in the life of a Christian.  Each day is one day closer to the cross of Calvary for Jesus.  This is a time of reflection for the body of Christ as a whole.  And a time of gratefulness and rejoicing.

The rejoicing will come later.  After the cross.  After the burial.  And after the Resurrection.  What must this week have been like emotionally for Jesus?  Well, at least it started off on a high.  Jesus entered Jerusalem on a donkey.  Word had spread that He was coming to town.

The multitudes gathered to greet him.  They took the branches of palm leaves and met him singing praises.  They laid the palm leaves on the ground for His donkey to walk on.  In essence, they made a green carpet.  Jesus was the headliner.  He was the main attraction.  They called Him the King of Israel.  They shouted “Hosanna” which translates to “save us.”  They hailed their conquering King and victor.  The same crowd would turn their backs on Him days later.

Before I’m too hard on this crowd, I’m always mindful to check myself and where I stand spiritually.  Although I’m not on the path to the cross, I do have a cross that I have to pick up daily and walk with, and it’s not easy.  I get discouraged.  In the beginning of carrying a heavy burden, it’s natural for me to cry out to God and ask Him to save me.  But as the trial endures and the cross seems to get heavier, I can find myself tapping out.  My cries for help grow weaker, and I find myself stopping in my tracks.

I know everyone is not like this.  I can only share my truth.  Reading the Word redirects me and gives me renewed focus.  It helps me to keep myself walking in the right direction.  I’m not turning my back on Jesus, but I do find myself fatigued at times.

Holy week is reminding me that my cross is not too heavy.  Jesus entered the week with grace.  He knew what was coming and yet continued to walk (and ride) in His purpose.  Because although tremendous pain and loss was coming, on the other side lay a victory that would set the whole world free.

What a week!  What a glorious week! #wepreach
